As everyone gathered here today knows, small businesses are the driving force in our economy, accounting for over half of all employment and nearly two-thirds of all employment growth in the United States. Small businesses are among the most dynamic in the economy, often responding to local needs and demands more quickly and more effectively than larger firms, and also creating new jobs in the process. That dynamism has a clear cost, as nearly a quarter of small businesses will fail in their first year, and nearly half will not make it past their third. Access to capital is the major constraint limiting the creation, growth, and expansion of small businesses, and it is the main contributing factor to their failure.

[265] What Does Financial Freedom Mean To You?

“If you got hit by a bus tomorrow, how would you fare, financially?”

Geez, how depressing.

I was asked that same question by two different financial advisors – there must be something to it.

To be honest, preparing for “what if” scenarios has not been a big part of my financial plan. I’ve always been good with money and because I’m not one for buying material things, I haven’t had to worry about getting in over my head with consumer debt.

Having said that, there have been some big changes in my life lately that have caused me to think of things in a new way.

In today’s Fresh in Fifteen episode, I talk about the shift that I’ve made from living outside the typical financial boxes to using them to my advantage. I explore how financial freedom is different for everyone and encourage you to hone in on what it really means to you, your business, and your life.

What Does Financial Freedom Mean To You?

Listen in to this episode to learn about:

  • The importance of shifting from a reactive to proactive approach with financial plans and financial transparency
  • How I started to think about what my business might look like without me
  • How to consider your personal definition of financial freedom

[263] 3 Steps To Positively Reframe Your Mindset

One thing that I love so, so much about running my own business is the endless potential, possibility, and opportunity that comes my way.

On any given day, in amongst my well planned out objectives, there are fortuitous moments for me to embrace and run with.

Of course, the downside to that is that once in awhile you end up in a situation where you’ve embraced a bunch of amazing opportunities and they’re starting to pile up.

And maybe, if you’re in my situation, some of the systems that your business life depends on start to act up at the same time.

So, as I’ve been going through this over the past few weeks, I had to check in with myself and consciously switch my perspective.

I had to get remind myself of my bigger vision in life, why I do the work I do and for who, and to remember to be grateful no matter what.

It would be really easy to fall down the rabbit hole of negativity but I made a choice – I chose to stop negativity in its tracks.

In today’s Fresh in Fifteen episode, encouraged by an article I read by Matt Mayberry, I look at that exact process and give you my take on his three suggestions to create a winning and healthy mindset as well as a handful of other tips and tricks to help you overcome or avoid your next mindset pitfall.

3 Steps To Positively Reframe Your Mindset

Listen in to this episode to learn about:

  • How to flip your perspective when the going gets tough
  • How mastering your mindset is the key to happiness in life AND business
  • Why keeping your vision in the forefront keeps everything else in check

A little background on Gareth – he built his first computer when he was 12.  Started his IT degree at 19, got bored, travelled for 2 years (to the UK). Finished his IT degree and a friend came to him with the idea about Private Box. So Gareth built it, then went off traveling again (to Ireland) and 4.5 year later he bought Private Box 4.5. He’s also a fellow freedom fighter!
